Hello Trudie,
I am sure that you are having an amazing time with your family today on your 40th Birthday and a complete surprise that we are all joining in on your birthday.
I started this card with a piece of white textured card and inked it up using Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink. Then using a text stamp and Black Archival ink I stamped over the entire piece of card.
Once this was dry I started cutting my pieces of paper into strips. These were off cuts that I had left from some 12"x 12" sheets of paper and where I took the orange colour from for the additional elements.
I managed to cut a square from one piece which I turned to form a diamond and to this diamond I added a black and white picture I had of a girl on a garden swing. To pull the picture into the card I used the distress ink to colour just her hat. This meant that the black and white picture with the orange hat went with the orange background with the black stamped text.
I lay all the strips out on the front of the card to decide where I wanted them to go, stuck them down adding the diamond on top. I had the cream flowers in my stash and I took some of the distress ink over them so that they tied in. I also added the number 40 using Cosmic Copper ink.
This card is a great example of why as crafters we find it difficult to throw anything away. I loved these papers and the colours in them when I bought them and I just couldn't throw the left overs away after using them on another project. Paper piecing is a great way of making use of all those bits we have and love.
Trudie I hope the card arrived with you in time for your birthday and that you have a birthday that you will never forget. You have a lot of friends that love you very much and it has been amazing getting to know you and to share this moment with you.
Happy Birthday Sweetie have fun and hope to see you in May.
Love and Hugs
Ria
